The College of Accountancy, Business Administation, and Computer Science held a three-day fair at the Activity Center, Level 5 of SM Manila.
Dubbed as TRADEX 2006, the event was a showcase of about 49 booths displaying the entrepreneurial creativity of the management and marketing students.
During the affair three seminars were held featuring an alumnus and two other successful entrepreneurs.
Mr. Francis Bonales, 1998 SSC-R Manila graduate, talked about “Entrepreneurship: Family Experience. As an active cheerleader during his time, Francis took time to help in his father’s garment business. From there, he managed to make the family venture become a major supplier for well-known brands like Bench, Penshoppe,Bio, Oxygen, Kamiseta, Scoop, Regata, Bobson, Abercrombie, etc. Now, the company (Alexander Wear) has grown to even supply globally known company like Kid Zone of Australia and another company in Europe. Growing in a family business with a house serving as the factory and office area paid off for him to become a more dedicated entrepreneur. He emphasized that one should not stop learning and sharing success is an act of humility. That’s why he felt privileged to go back to San Sebastian and impart his success stories to the aspiring entrepreneurs.
Mr. Manuelito Valloso spoke on “The Growth of a Small Enterprise”. Getting his venture from a streetfood chicharon, he took advantage of the economic boom in 1994 which paved the way to a flourishing business. Manuel’s Delicious Chicharon now maintains about 9 branches and currently supplying 4 other branches. His tips on venturing a business include the following:
– there’s no such thing as a “routinary” thing in business; everyday we face new challenges
– business is a 24-hour duty and the entrepreneur takes the lone responsibility
– good idea is different from actual business
– quality is done and not said
– always look at the level of manageability
– venture into a business where you have great interest in
– business has to evolve, otherwise, something is wrong with the management or product
Speaker no. 3 is a gasoline station owner and a graduate of La Salle. Mr. Arthur Santos has kept Caltex Chevron (found at Roxas Blvd. Ext, Navotas Fishport) in good shape since its inception in 1980. His good business principles rest on the following key elements: standard, consistency, creativity, integrity, and passion. For him, success is defined in three ways: 1.earning what you desire for a product, 2.being recognized as a leader in the industry, and 3.enjoying and loving what you do.
TRADEX 2006 was one of the highlights of the 10th CABACS Week. This year’s celebration bannered the theme “Responding to the Call of Dynamism and Innovativeness in Business Education”.
