Chiang Kai Shek College dominates the finals

Fourteen schools sent representatives last Thursday, December 7, to the first St. Ezekiel Cup 2006, an inter-high school competition in Mathematics which was organized by the Sebastinian Mathematical Society(SMS) and was held at the Bar Review Center of the Law Building, SSC-R Manila.
Dubbed as “MATHirang MATHibay 2006”, the competition registered two teams composed of two persons per school. Among these schools were Manila Science High School, St. Joseph’s School of Pandacan, Claret School of Quezon City, Emilio Aguinaldo College Science High School, Infant Jesus Academy of Marikina, Torres High School, Philippine Cultural High School, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, Jose Rizal University, Arellano University-Juan Sumulong Campus, Saint Jude Catholic School, Paco Catholic School, University of the East-Manila, and Chiang Kai Shek Manila.
From a total of 28 teams, the contest finals trimmed down hopefuls into 7 teams composed of 2 teams from Chiang Kai Shek College, and a team each coming from Philippine Cultural High School, Claret School, Torres High School, Manila Science High School, Saint Jude Catholic School.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were awarded with P5,000.00, P3,000.00, P2,000.00 plus plaques and medals respectively.
The contest was a joint project of the SMS and the CABACS in coordination with the Public Relations Office. It was seen as an innovative approach of extending to the potential enrollees information about the school and its courses. During the morning program, Mr. Albert Danan presented the school, background of the different colleges and the courses offered.
Meanwhile, Fr. Jorge D. Peligro, opened the program with a welcome remarks. He commended the organizer for coming up with an effort that allows students from different high schools to know more about the school and be familiar with the courses it offers. Dr. Lolita A. De Guzman, CABACS dean rendered the closing remarks while the SSC-R Dance Troupe rendered a street dance as an entertainment number.
Iuigene Antonio M. Balbin and Faith Monterey served as emcees during the morning program while Miss Cherry Lou Alfon became the quiz master during the afternoon competition. Goldilocks provided the snacks as sponsor.
