Through the College of Accountancy, Business Administration and Computer Studies (CABACS), SSC-R Manila renews its partnership with the Philippine National IT Standards Foundation (PhilNITS).

Formerly known as JITSE Philippine Foundation, Inc., PhilNITS is a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization that is implementing a Certification Program from the Japan Information Technology Engineers Examination Center (JITEC) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.
SC-R Manila opened its doors to PhilNITS in 2002 for the Area of Computer Studies which is under CABACS. PhilNITS examinations then were incorporated in the Computer Science curriculum to give students an edge to pass the JITSE Certification Program.

With the extended partnership, students can avail of better job opportunities in Japanese institutions here and abroad.

From a regional based exam, PhilNITS examination has grown into a large-scale national examination in the Philippines aiming at:

     improving the individual technical competence

indicating the level of competence required of various types of IT engineers and to act as a guideline for education and training

establishing objective criteria for evaluating the skills and competence of IT engineers and to raise the social status of qualified engineers.

PhilNITS is offering the following three (3) types of exams.

Level 1 – Information Technology Passport Exam

Level 2 – Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination

Level 3 – Applied Information Technology Examination

Since its beginning, the examination has been taken by over 6,744 applicants with 776 having successfully passed. The Area of Computer Studies is determined to join the 776 passers beginning this school year (2010-2011).

The Japanese government, in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, has proposed the implementation of the JITSE examination, a viable and credible measure of IT skills. The JITSE examination, a certification program for IT practitioners, gives Filipinos an advantage when seeking work both here and abroad. Said examination is equivalent to European and American standards on the Fundamentals of IT.

The DTI, in cooperation with PhilNITS is implementing the PhilNITS examinations with the assistance of the private sector represented by the Information Technology Foundation of the Philippines (ITFP) the Philippine Computer Society (PCS), Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and various agencies of the government such as the National Computer Center (NCC), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technology Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Philippine State Universities and Colleges in Computer Education Society (PSUCCESS).

The Fundamental IT Engineers Exam (FE) is one of the 14 exams given by the Japan IT Engineers Examination Center (JITEC) of the Information Technology Promotions Agency (IPA) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) of Japan. These exams are based on an established Information Technology Engineers Skill Standards (ITSS).

The FE Exam is used to evaluate the knowledge and skills of an IT personnel
(engineer) on the fundamentals of IT.

The Fundamentals of IT Engineers Exam (FE) requires the person to have the ability to develop a good program by making full use of techniques related to basic-level algorithm and data structure. The FE Exams also require the person to be able to successfully carry out jobs such as program development, unit tests, and system integration tests.

Present during the MOA signing held last March 23, 2010 were Rev. Fr. Anthony A.
Morillo, OAR (President), Rev. Fr. Leander V. Barrot, OAR(VP-Academics), Rev.
Fr. Leonardo P. Pauligue (VP-Administration), Mrs. Corazon M. Akol (PhilNITS
President) and Ms. Antoinette R. Marcelo (PhilNITS Training Director). Dean Lolita De Guzman and Mrs. Aileen Zamora represented the CABACS.

Very easily, the OAR Fathers weakened the College Faculty in a 26-point lead ending the fourth quarter of the Basketball Exhibition Match this morning at the gymnasium.

First quarter match provided an 11-point lead (21-10) which was deepened largely by a 15-point break-away ending the second quarter (40-25), the Fathers still in wide lead.
Third quarter lead ballooned to 26 (66-40) and was maintained with a 90-64 stopper in the last quarter.

Fr. Lucero hit the top mark, heading the list with 11 in the half-time scores and pulling over some 23 points of the team’s total mark. Playing gleefully but scoring 20, Fr. Morillo exhausted the last strength but had a lot of fun. Tough man, Fr. Mercado made some steals and blocks to garner 15 points. Coming back to reinforce the fourth quarter team strength, Fr. Tolentin put out his aggressive stance for a strong defense and goaled 10 points. Muscling the team’s offensive play during the first two quarters, Fr. Barrot netted 8.
Meanwhile, College Faculty team stayed tough till the last seconds with the indefatigably strong combination of Gamboa, Espinal and Empleo who poured in 16, 12, and 10 points respectively.

“Teaching is a thankless job and students may have different appreciations on teachers.” shared Fr. Leander Barrot, VP-Academics as he addressed the CABACS students and faculty members during yesterday’s program on Teachers’ Day held at the auditorium. A product of both teachers, his parents may have had the hint that someday their son is going to head a gargantuan task of leading the academic direction of one dynamic and well-recognized school in Manila.
Being too strict or too lenient, according to Fr. Barrot, students will always have something to say about their teachers. Unmindful of this, teachers, on the other hand, are like farmers sowing the seeds and are not certain when the seeds will grow. “This is because for teachers, the fruits of labor is not seen immediately”, he continued.

Fr. Barrot further ascribed teaching as a healing profession. For just like Christ, teachers tend to do social healing as they make outsiders become insiders. Christ himself respects the dignity and history of a person and displays understanding more than just tolerance to produce winners out of the ordinary persons.

“Maraming salamat at nahipo n’yo kami!”, expressed Christopher Villar, CABACS Federation and JPIA president as he rendered his short but impact-generating opening remarks. “Teaching is all about influencing”, he stressed as he acknowledged fully well faculty members as parents and educators who are “teaching from the heart and not from the book.”

Meanwhile, entertainment numbers came in allowing the crowd to savor the fun. READS’ Wonder Boys brought the house down as they impersonated riotously a “Nobody” dance number while song numbers and a dance number from the Recollect Dance Troup filled the afternoon with delight.

Emcees Karla Nacion (LMS) and RJ Bendicio (JPIA) encouraged the crowd to text in messages for their professors and read all these surprisingly good, heart-warming and funny messages to the delight of the faculty.

Closing message was rendered by SMC president, Carlo Encallado. Flowers and gifts were given to the CABACS faculty as the program concluded.

The program was one of the highlights of the CABACS Week. HAPPY TEACHERS DAY!

Bravo Teachers! Bravo Baste!
